Airborne LiDAR Mapping

Advanced Aerial Mapping Services (AAMS) employs cutting-edge Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) technology to gather meticulous and comprehensive data regarding the terrain and surface features of the earth from an aerial perspective.

LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser pulses to measure the distance between the sensor and an object. By emitting a laser beam and measuring the time it takes for the beam to reflect back, LiDAR can create a highly accurate 3D map of an area. One of the main benefits of using LiDAR is its ability to accurately measure distances. Since it uses laser pulses, LiDAR can measure distances with high precision, making it a valuable tool in industries such as surveying, construction, and mining. Another benefit of LiDAR is its ability to identify objects.

By analysing the reflected laser pulses, LiDAR can detect and classify objects such as buildings, trees, and vegetation. This makes it a useful tool in applications such as urban planning, forestry, and transportation. Additionally, LiDAR can create highly detailed images of the scanned area. By combining the 3D map with aerial imagery, LiDAR can create realistic models of the environment that are useful in a variety of industries. For example, LiDAR can be used to create detailed maps for emergency response teams, to plan transportation routes, or to analyse the impact of natural disasters.

Overall, LiDAR is a versatile and powerful technology with many benefits. Its high accuracy, object detection capabilities, and ability to create detailed images make it a valuable tool in a wide range of industries.

Advanced Aerial Mapping Services (AAMS) utilizes Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) technology to capture precise and detailed data about the terrain and surface features of the earth from the air. At Advanced Aerial Mapping Services (AAMS), we offer both Manned Aerial survey (Piloting Aircraft) and UAV (Drone technology) to capture LIDAR data for projects.

Advanced Aerial Mapping Services (AAMS) is proud to offer both manned aerial surveys, by utilising specialised Aerial Survey Aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones, to acquire LIDAR data for a wide range of projects in Saudi Arabia, Middle East and other parts of the world.

Advanced Aerial Mapping Services (AAMS) operate fleet of specialised aerial survey aircraft that includes Diamond DA45 and Aero Commander 690 A and most advanced Rigel airborne LiDAR sensors, the Dual Channel Waveform Processing Airborne LiDAR Scanning System for High Point Density Mapping and Ultra-Wide Area Mapping coverage.

This technology provides highly accurate and detailed measurements of the earth's surface, which is then used to create digital terrain models (DTMs) and digital surface models (DSMs).

DTMs (Digital Terrain Models) are three-dimensional representations of the earth's surface that show the elevation and contours of the terrain, while DSMs (Digital Surface Models) include all surface features such as buildings, trees, and other man-made and natural objects.

These models are crucial in various industries, including urban planning, construction, environmental management, and disaster response. AAMS team of experts uses the latest LIDAR technology to capture high-resolution data that is then processed using advanced software to create accurate and detailed models of the earth's surface. The resulting data is used to provide valuable insights and informed decision-making to various industries, helping them to make data-driven and informed choices.

UAV LiDAR

When it comes to UAV drones, LiDAR technology provides numerous benefits. Firstly, LiDAR-equipped drones can create highly accurate 3D maps of the terrain, which can be incredibly useful in a variety of industries such as agriculture, construction, and mining. This is because LiDAR technology is capable of capturing millions of data points per second, which allows for extremely detailed and accurate mapping. Secondly, LiDAR can be used to create point clouds, which are 3D representations of the environment that can be used for further analysis. This can include things like measuring the height of vegetation, identifying the location of power lines, or even creating digital models of buildings. Finally, LiDAR-equipped drones can be used for a variety of other applications, such as surveying, search and rescue, and environmental monitoring. In all of these cases, the high level of accuracy provided by LiDAR technology can make a significant difference in the speed and effectiveness of these operations.

During our UAV-LiDAR mission, each emitted laser pulse reflects on multiple objects with different reflectivity properties. If a laser pulse encounters several reflective surfaces as it travels towards the target feature, it is split into as many returns as there are reflective surfaces. The return that occurs first is the most significant and is linked to the highest feature in the landscape, such as a treetop or a road surface. Multiple returns have the capability to detect the elevations of various objects within the laser footprint of an outgoing laser pulse. At AAMS, we utilise DJI M350 drone and L2 LiDAR sensor for small project areas whereas we utilise Quantum F90 pro for comparatively large areas for LIDAR data acquisition.

Overall, the benefits of using LiDAR in UAV drones are numerous and can have a significant impact on a wide range of industries and applications.
